Introduction

This 4 days Adventure to Kidepo National Park is an epic road journey into the wildest corner of Uganda. Here, adventure meets authenticity in the untamed heart of Africa, tucked in the far northeast near the borders of Kenya and South Sudan. To begin with, this expedition takes you far-off-the-beaten track, through Uganda’s vibrant east and the culturally rich lands of Karamoja. Eventually, it will deliver you into the rugged untouched wilderness of Kidepo; a place once named Africa’s most beautiful park. Throughout the journey, you will travel through the scenic highlands, vast plains and isolated mountain ranges as you pass through Mbale, Moroto, Kotido, each step unfolding a new chapter of Uganda’s story. Your trip begins with a scenic drive through Mbale and Sipi Falls and a cultural overnight stay in Moroto, the heart of Karamojong region. From there, you will proceed to Kidepo valley, home to cheetahs, elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, ostriches and more. While here, enjoy the thrilling game drives and marvel at the wild beauty of the Narus and Kidepo valleys under expansive skies. To enrich your experience, you will soak in the views at Kanangorok Hot Springs and get an insight into the resilient and fascinating Karamojong people.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Moroto via Mbale – Sipi Falls

Your journey will begin early in the morning with pick-up from Entebbe after breakfast. Accompanied by our professional driver-guide, you will embark on a scenic road transfer heading east through lush countryside, trading centres and rolling hills. As you journey through the east, your first major stop will be at Sipi Falls, located on the foothills of Mount Elgon in Kapchorwa district. While here, you will engage in a light hike to the three iconic waterfalls, taking photos at panoramic viewpoints.  The dramatic drop, lush vegetation and the spectacular views of the surrounding coffee plantations and vast plains of eastern Uganda are a sight to behold while at Sipi Falls. After your experience here, you will have lunch and continue your journey northward through remote villages and striking semi- arid landscapes as you enter Karamoja region. Although the drive to Moroto is long, it is rewarding, offering a true off-the-beaten-path experience as you ascend into the home of the Karamojong people. Upon arrival in Moroto town, you will check into your lodge and enjoy a well-deserved dinner and evening at leisure. This is a perfect moment to relax as you soak in the cool mountain air and prepare for cultural immersion and adventure that awaits.

Day 2: Transfer to Kidepo Valley National Park – Visit the Karamojong people

After an early breakfast at your lodge in Moroto, you will embark on a scenic drive northward toward Kidepo Valley National Park. En route, you will soak in the expansive, rugged landscapes of Karamoja with acacia-studded plains and rocky hills across the horizon. Midway through the journey, you will have a stop to have your packed lunch, perhaps, grab some snacks and beverages and stretch your legs before proceeding to Kotido where you will go deep into the Karamojong villages for a cultural tour. While in the Karamojong Manyattas, you will meet the community elders, and learn about the semi-nomadic lifestyle that revolves around cattle herding, age-old customs and vibrant beadwork. This immersive cultural stop will provide deep insight into the resilience and heritage of the Karamojong people. Following this experience, you will proceed to the park and continue to your lodge for dinner and a restful overnight.

Day 3: Kanangorok Hot springs – Afternoon Game Drive

After your breakfast, you will head toward the remarkable Kanangorok hot springs, a natural geothermal wonder nestled near the South Sudan border. The journey to the springs is just as rewarding, passing seasonal riverbeds, dry plains and possibly sightings of ostriches, lesser kudu and jackals along the way. Once at the springs, you will have time to admire the steaming, bubbling waters in a stark otherworldly landscape; perfect for photography and a quiet moment surrounded by nature. After your exploration, you will have lunch before setting out for your afternoon game drive. This is the perfect time when animals are out in the open and gathered around water sources like the Narus river, quenching their thirst. During this activity, you will spot herds of elephants, giraffes, buffaloes and antelopes among other animals. While on the drive, keep your camera ready for Uganda’s majestic wildlife bathed in the warm glow of sunset. After this thrilling experience, you will head back to your lodge for a well-deserved dinner and a restful night in preparation for the long journey.

Day 4: Transfer to Entebbe

After an early breakfast, you will check out and begin your journey to Entebbe. This full-day drive offers a chance to reflect on the incredible experiences you have had; from close wildlife encounters in the savannah to cultural insights among the Karamojong community. Along the way, you will enjoy lunch enroute in Mbale and also take a few short scenic or cultural breaks along the way to stretch your legs and grab some snacks. You will arrive in Entebbe in the evening where you will be dropped off at your desired location.
